In 1993 Patagonia became the first company to adopt post consumer recycled fleece into their product range.
Made from recycled soda bottles Patagonia can make 150 garments from 3,700 recycled 2 litre bottles, this saves a barrel of oil and avoids approximately half a ton of toxic air emissions.
This provides a market for recycled plastic and them with a relatively cheap material source.
Since their launch they have diverted nearly 40 million bottles from landfill saving enough oil to fill a 40 gallon petrol tank 10,000 times!
